FAQs

Everything you wanted to know but didn’t know who to ask

Is Remedy Kombucha organic?

Yes siree! We carry the official mark of Australian Certified Organic (ACO) Standard. This tells you we have met rigorous independent checks undertaken by one of the most respected and trusted standards in the world for organic production.

What is the sugar content of Remedy Kombucha?

Remedy is naturally free from sugar. There is no sugar left in the final product. We use raw sugar to brew our kombucha because it is essential food for the culture, however all of it consumed during the fermentation process. It’s important to look after your gut health and we believe a kombucha that is low in sugar (and high in live organic acids and healthy bacteria) will do just that.  Sarah Wilson, author and blogger behind I Quit Sugar, is one of many respected health and wellness experts who drinks and recommends Remedy.

Can I drink Remedy Kombucha if I am pregnant or breastfeeding?

Absolutely. Pregnant and breastfeeding mothers have been safely consuming fermented food and drinks for thousands of years.

Can children drink Remedy Kombucha?

You bet! We know lots of kids who have grown up enjoying kombucha (including Remedy Founders Sarah and Emmet‘s own family) and many other types of fermented food and drink.

What are the floaty bits of blobs in my kombucha?

Have no fear! Strands or blobs of the kombucha  SCOBY or ‘mother’ may appear in the bottle. While they may seem weird the first time you see them, rest assured these are signs of a natural, healthy and raw kombucha and are perfectly normal and safe. In fact, it’s a good sign of a very healthy kombucha!

Does Remedy Kombucha contain alcohol?

Like many fermented foods and drinks, a trace amount of alcohol is produced during the natural fermentation process. We thoroughly test each and every batch to ensure that this does not go above 0.5% as per national standards for non-alcoholic drinks.

Does Remedy Kombucha contain caffeine?

Each serve of Remedy Kombucha has less than 10mg of caffeine, which is very low. To put it into perspective, coffee can contain more than 100mg of caffeine depending on how strongly it is brewed.

Does Remedy contain genetically modified ingredients?

Definitely not. Our products are, and always will be, 100% GMO-free.

Is Remedy Kombucha gluten-free?

Yep, it sure is!

Do I need to keep my Remedy Kombucha in the fridge?

We recommend keeping Remedy Kombucha in the fridge because we think it tastes best cold (although some people love it so much they will drink it at any temperature!). We have run extensive microbial testing of Remedy both in and out of the fridge throughout its shelf life to ensure that the live cultures in our real, raw kombucha stay happy and intact. That fact that we brew out all of the sugar in our long-aged fermentation process means there is no risk of re-fermentation in the bottle.

What is the shelf life of Remedy Kombucha?

Our best-before dates are 12 months from the time of pouring/ bottling our delish drinks.

How long does Remedy Kombucha last after opening?

We recommend consuming within a couple of days of opening. Once opened, the kombucha will start to lose its fizz.

Is Remedy Kombucha pasteurised?

No way. Our kombucha is raw and unpasteurised. This means that the kombucha is never heated, which ensures that the beneficial bacteria and live cultures remain healthy and intact.

Why are fermented products so good for you?

People from around the world have safely been consuming fermented food and drinks for thousands of years. In fact, you probably already consume lots of fermented products (cheese! yoghurt! bread! miso!) and maybe don’t realise it. As our knowledge of the human gut – including its connection to physical and mental health – increases, it is becoming clear that fermented foods play a vital role in maintaining a healthy gut flora. What is stevia?

Stevia is a plant that belongs to the chrysanthemum family, which grows in Paraguay and Brazil. It contains no fructose yet is 300 times sweeter than sugar. By adding a touch of stevia to our drink, it allows us to truly provide you with a ‘gut-friendly’ drink that tastes super delicious. We blend stevia with a naturally occurring nectar known as erythritol (commonly found in pears, watermelons, grapes and other fermented products like wine, cheese and soy sauce). Both stevia and erythritol have been used as natural sweeteners in many parts of the world for hundreds of years.

What is a SCOBY?

The SCOBY stands for:  Symbiotic Culture Of Bacteria and Yeast. Also referred to as the ‘mother’, this is the living culture that makes kombucha so special. A great analogy is to think of it as the ‘home’ for the good bacteria and healthy yeasts that magically transforms tea into kombucha.
